Le Grand, CA – September 16, 2025 — Le Grand High School brought the community together in a vibrant celebration of Mexican Independence Day on Tuesday afternoon, hosting an after-school event filled with music, culture, and of course—free tacos.

Students, families, and faculty gathered in the school courtyard, which was transformed into a festive space decorated with papel picado, Mexican flags, and colorful banners. The event aimed to honor the rich cultural heritage of Mexico and educate students on the significance of September 16, the day Mexico began its fight for independence from Spain in 1810.

The celebration kicked off right after school with a student-led food line. Many students came in hopes of having a good time chilling after school, eating tacos, and playing fun games such as volleyball, badminton, big connect four, and paddle catch ball.

But the biggest hit of the afternoon? The free tacos and horchata.

Thanks to support from principal and student volunteers, the school gave away hundreds of tacos to attendees. Choices ranged from carne asada and al pastor, all freshly prepared and served by the cafeteria on the quad area.

In addition to the food and entertainment, mental health advocates, HOSA and Nami all came out and set up booths giving out free things that were related to sudicide prevention month, and crafts.

As the sun set over the Central Valley, music continued to play and laughter echoed across the school grounds, wrapping up a successful celebration that many hope will become an annual tradition.
